Information for Participants

Join an event

Accomodation

  • Dormitory-style rooms with a total of 24 beds

    • Four rooms sleeping up to 5 people (bunkbeds + optional trundle / single)

    • Two twin rooms

  • Additional on‑site options may be available; your course leader will confirm whether camping (you need to bring your own gear) or live‑in vehicles are permitted for your retreat

Facilities

  • Forest Room: A large, flexible workshop space with break-out room, wood‑burner, heaters, chairs and cushions 

  • Kitchen & Utility: Fully equipped for self‑catering, including large fridge, small fridge, chest freezer, hand blender, food processor, hot‑water boiler, washing machine and tumble dryer

  • Living & Dining Area: Open‑plan space with seating and open fire (fire guard should be used at all times)

  • Outdoor Spaces: Decking, lawns, fire pit, forest garden, medicine garden, composting toilets and access to the moor

  • Drying Room: Located below the Centre for wet outdoor clothes and boots​

Accessibility

  • Main building is on one level with accessible wet room, toilet, stability bars, and emergency cord

  • Forest Room accessible via short slope

  • The lower lawn can be accessed via a slope or steps

  • Paths to car park are uneven; please contact us if you have specific access needs

What to bring

  • Towel

  • Clothing for all weather (Dartmoor can be cold year‑round so bring extra layers)

  • Waterproof coat / trousers and sturdy outdoor boots / wellingtons

  • Toiletries (biodegradable products preferred to protect our water system)

  • Bed linen (pillow, duvet and blanket provided) or hire for £10 per person

  • Torch/head torch

  • Comfort items: slippers, hot water bottle, cosy blanket etc. (we do have a few hot water bottles and blankets but we ask that the blankets and bedding remain in the bedrooms).

  • Safety gear if walking on the moor (map, compass, whistle)

  • Swim ware: it may be possible to access outdoor swimming

Food & catering

  • The Centre is fully self‑catered

  • All food and drink are arranged by your course leader (vegan / vegetarian)

  • Some groups may hire a cook — check with your facilitator

  • ​All water is borehole‑fed and filtered... its delicious!

Travel & connectivity

  • No public transport to the Centre

  • Parking available (follow visitor parking signs); lift‑sharing encouraged

  • The road to the Centre is steep, take it slow and stay in first gear 

  • Mobile signal is patchy

  • Wi‑Fi available for internet‑based communication

​Staying extra nights

  • Participants cannot normally stay outside the official retreat dates. However, if you are interested in volunteering with us please get in touch to see if we have any availability

  • Nearby accommodation is available in Manaton, Widecombe‑in‑the‑Moor, Chagford, and Moretonhampstead

Pets

  • Unfortunately, pets cannot be brought to the Centre
